I love #FortunateFridays! It reminds me of how fortunate I am to have a family that loves me unconditionally, a roof over my head, and not have to worry about where my next meal is coming from. This week our #FortunateFriday feature is a not-for-profit called Share the Dignity. They are dedicated in providing homeless women and women in domestic violence shelters with the sanitary items they need. Not only that, they have also grown to include other causes for women – namely their #itsinthebag initiative which provides women facing hardship with a special package at Christmas and their Because We Care initiative which is committed to organising and paying for the funeral of every person lost to family violence in Australia. Founded by Rochelle Courtenay, Share the Dignity is run entirely by volunteers! Truly an amazing effort!
This year, our team and students at Dolph Business School have been fortunate enough to be able to contribute to their #itsinthebag campaign – giving the gift of a little luxury to women experiencing hardship this Christmas, filling handbags with special presents for women in need. Scott Adams once said that there is no such thing as a small act of kindness, that every act creates a ripple with no logical end.
The #itsinthebag initiative is not just any act of kindness, it is such a special act of kindness. Making someone feel genuinely loved and special at Christmas when everything else in their lives is crumbling around them, is immensely profound. I couldn’t praise this initiative enough. Christmas time is the time when we all usually feel so loved and special – spending time with our loved ones and celebrating all the merriment with the festivities. But there are so many people out there who are not so fortunate. Some are living in cars because they can’t afford to rent or have nowhere else to go. Some are living in shelters because they have just escaped from a violent and abusive partner and need to protect themselves and their children.
We have so much to be thankful for. And one of the ways we are able to make others’ lives better is by giving. We really hope that one day our team and students at Dolph can do more. Create positive, life-changing campaigns such as these to help all those that are in need in our community. But for now, we are happy to contribute to causes such as these! Please note, our #FortunateFriday posts are not sponsored. They are chosen to be featured by our team and our students, and they are chosen because we believe in what they do and want the world to know about them!
‘Till our next #FortunateFriday feature, have a great week and remember to be kind, everyone you meet is fighting a battle you know nothing about. Your act of kindness could create immense change beyond your wildest imagination!
